Cala Martina is an expanse of sand and pebbles surrounded by the promontories of Punta Francese and Punta Martina, from which it takes its name. A place of peace and silence completely surrounded by the Mediterranean scrub. This beach is known to the chronicles for having been the scene of a historical event concerning the famous hero of the two worlds: Giuseppe Garibaldi. According to some stories, the leader took refuge in Cala Martina to escape the papal guards. From here, with the help of the locals, Garibaldi embarked on a fishing boat which brought him to safety.
