1. Where is Poggio la Croce located?

Poggio la Croce is located in the Bandite di Scarlino nature reserve, in the Maremma region of Tuscany, in the municipality of Scarlino (GR). The property is set within a Mediterranean woodland inside the UNESCO Geopark of the Metalliferous Hills (Colline Metallifere), 10 km from the sea of the Gulf of Follonica and the beaches of the nature reserve, including Cala Violina and Cala Martina.

2. How far is the sea?

We are 10 km from the sea of the Gulf of Follonica and the Bandite di Scarlino nature reserve. The closest and most beautiful beaches are Cala Violina and Cala Martina, reachable by car in about 15 minutes, then on foot along woodland paths (15–20 minutes walk from the car park).

3. How many apartments are there, and how many people can they accommodate?

Poggio la Croce has 8 independent apartments: Sughera di Sopra (4+1 guests, 74 sqm), Sughera di Sotto (4 guests, 64 sqm), Sugherina (2+1 guests, 52 sqm), Fonte di Sopra (4 guests, 86 sqm), Fonte di Sotto (up to 7 guests, 120 sqm), Cerro di Sopra (4 guests, 78 sqm), Cerro di Sotto (up to 6 guests, 104 sqm) and Cottage Glicine (4+1 guests, 80 sqm). The property can accommodate up to 38 guests in total.

4. When is the property open?

Poggio la Croce is open from 1st April to 1st November.

5. What amenities are included in each apartment?

Each apartment includes free WiFi, air conditioning, a fully equipped kitchen, bed linen and towels, a private outdoor area (patio or garden) and a private parking space. All guests have access to the shared panoramic infinity pool.

6. Is there a swimming pool?

Yes, the property has a shared panoramic infinity pool available to all guests, with views over the woodland and the Maremma countryside.

7. Are dogs and other pets welcome?

Yes, pets are welcome at Poggio la Croce. A supplement applies for pets. The property has a dedicated off-leash dog area. The surrounding woodland is perfect for long walks. There are also many dog-friendly beaches (bau beach) nearby: along the Scarlino coastline, at Marina di Grosseto in loc. Le Marze, at Castiglione della Pescaia in loc. Il Piastrone, at San Vincenzo, at the Gulf of Baratti and at other locations along the Maremma coast.

8. Is a car necessary?

Yes, a car is essential. The property is located in a nature reserve far from town centres. The nearest village with a supermarket, pharmacy, banks and other services is Bagno di Gavorrano, 9 km away. The sea is about 10 km away.

9. Is bed linen included?

Yes, you will find the apartment ready with bed linen and towels included. Linen is changed weekly. More frequent changes are available on request at an extra charge.

10. What are the extra costs?

Additional costs include: a pet fee, a fee for an extra bed or crib (where available), and any additional linen changes.

11. What are the check-in and check-out times?

Check-in is from 16:00 to 20:00. Check-out must be completed by 10:00. For different times please contact us in advance.

12. . Is electric vehicle charging available?

Yes, Poggio la Croce has 2 electric vehicle charging points, available free of charge for all guests.

13. Is breakfast, half board or catering available?

No, Poggio la Croce does not offer any catering service: there is no breakfast, half board or full board. However, each apartment has a fully equipped kitchen with everything you need to cook independently. Restaurants, trattorias and grocery shops/supermarket can be found nearby in Scarlino Scalo (5 km), Bagno di Gavorrano (9 km) and along the coast.

14. Is the property suitable for children?

Yes, Poggio la Croce is ideal for families with children. The outdoor spaces, surrounding woodland, pool and proximity to the sea offer a safe and stimulating environment for younger guests. A cot or extra bed can be added on request.

15. What can we do nearby if it rains?

Maremma has plenty to offer even in wet weather: the network of museums in the Metalliferous Hills (geology, mining, archaeology), the Valpiana Aquarium, winery tour with wine tastings, the thermal spas of Saturnia and Petriolo, the medieval town centre of Massa Marittima and the historic villages of the area.

16. How do you get to Cala Violina?

Cala Violina is about 15 minutes away by car. There are two walking routes: from the Puntone di Scarlino car park, the coastal path (known as the ‘path of the coves’) passes Cala le Donne and Cala Martina before reaching Cala Violina (about 40 minutes on foot); from the Pian d’Alma car park, a woodland path takes about 20 minutes. Beach access is paid by reservation in high season.

17. Is the property suitable for groups or private events?

Yes, with 8 apartments and a total capacity of around 38 guests, Poggio la Croce is ideal for family gatherings, groups of friends, retreats or private events. Please contact us for availability and group booking conditions.

Three villas for unique experiences

You are in one of the areas with the least light pollution in all of Italy. On nights without a full moon, the sky is laden with millions of lights. It is a spectacle that cannot be described. It just has to be experienced.

Whether as a couple or family, with friends or with your dog, you will always find the right accommodation. The apartments can accommodate from two to seven people, and there is a fireplace in the halls just ready to be stoked, which will warm you in the cooler months after a mushroom hunting trip or a horseback ride. And the kitchens are equipped with everything you need, including tasting wine glasses. Our great Tuscan reds won’t disappoint!
